Twin Powers Logo Awakening Our Gifts Part 4: Listening to the Silence

There is splendour behind the illusion.

It is all around us and everywhere we look.

It is unfortunate that it gets lost in the looking.

There is mystery in the seeking,

A game of hide and seek with ourselves

We will poke and prod and see what we discover,

Until it’s time to step aside

So that the hidden can speak

And silence the hunger

That keeps us from being

The subtle touch is unyielding

And a quiet refrain for the distracted

It hides in the echo behind a joker’s grin

And dares the willing to unmask

The conversation has been wonderful as reconnecting with an old friend and talking about something that I love with them is indeed a pleasure. Late in the conversation my friend mentions someone, and though she had mentioned others, the mention of this person stirred something. I am moving as we speak, phone in hand, and looking at where I am going.

Awakening Our Gifts Part 3: The Mind We Create

But there is mystery in the seeking,

“We are what we think”, is a general statement, but accurate enough (1). Yet it is also a very simple statement, is it not? Quaint in a way, sort of old fashioned. Yet if you stop to consider the implications of this statement, that simplicity dissolves away. It implies that if we see ourselves and the world a certain way, then that is how we are and this is the way it is for us. It also tells us that what we think, even if we are not aware of it, plays a major role in determining what we experience.

Awakening Our Gifts Part 2: The Makings of Mind

There is splendour behind the illusion.

It is all around us and everywhere we look.

It is unfortunate that it gets lost in the looking.

We are a powerful consciousness, one that slips into shadow in the glare of everyday life. It is our empathy, telepathy, ability to be sensitive and work with energy and access to our intuition, our non-rational capabilities (those not rooted in thoughts), that are typically lost in the shadows. Our consciousness is not hiding; we put it there and have caged it because of our tendency to think too much and poorly. Un-caging it is just the nature of our adventure, hence poorly is not meant as a negative, it is merely a reality, it is part of the nature of the very consciousness we would like to unfold.

Awakening Our Gifts Part 1: The Face of Our Challenge

Back in the late 80’s, I was at a bar enjoying myself with a couple of friends when a young man walked up to me and stated he’d heard I was psychic. I remember thinking that was an odd introduction, especially since I’d never called or referred to myself as a psychic and wondered who he was. Of course, I do not remember exactly what I said, but essentially I asked him where he had heard that. He mentioned the person who had told him I was, who I did know, which had me wondering why he would say that as I never had. I did say something to the effect that everyone was and asked why he mentioned it.

He went on about how he did not believe in it and though the whole “psychic thing” was a crock and asked me to prove it to him. I was a little taken aback by such a direct and aggressive question, which bordered on a demand. I remember suggesting to him that belief is a personal choice, that he was free to believe or not and that I it wasn’t my job to prove it to him. For one thing, I’d never done psychic “things” on demand and actually still don’t, nor was I sure that I could and I was being honest in it did not feel like it was my task to convince him.

Our Mental House Part 6: Our Relations With Others

The purpose behind the Our Mental House series has been to explain more about our nature of our mind, its dynamics and subsequent influence on us. I have done this by examining the one factor that affects us the most, our thoughts. It is our minds that provide our interface to ‘reality’ and becomes what we identify as us. Even though it is only one aspect of what we are it does not take long before we see it as the only us. While this transference is gradual, it becomes almost complete by the time we are teenagers. It is like learning to walk only with shoes and then believing you need them to walk because you forget you can do so without them.

This illusion is strong, because our minds are strong and when empowered in only one direction, they become lazy and accustomed to it. Once the illusion takes hold it can only be broken by deconstruction of some of its core elements. We have painted ourselves into a corner and the key to getting ourselves out of it is not to shatter the illusion rather it is to expand the corner, which can leave us lost and uncertain. We need to work on broadening our perspective. This is the intent of all my writings, to expand the possibilities by awakening the awareness within.
